Under the Local Government Act 1972 section 137 the Council has powers to give general Grants ‘for purposes which may bring a direct benefit to the area or any part of it or some or all of the inhabitants’.
Grants are made on the basis of support to only truly local charities and organisations.
Under other Statutory Powers, Grants are made to several organisations which benefit the local community, and have previously included support for local transport, recreational and sports organisations, as well as local charitable groups.
In the 2016-2017 Financial Year approximately £21,500 was disbursed in Grants.
If you would like to apply for a Grant please download an application form and return it to the Tavistock Town Council Office no later than 1st December annually. Successful applicants receive their Grant funds early in the following Financial Year.
Please read the policy document carefully before submitting your application, and please include all the documentation requested to support your application.
