Tavistock Garden Festival 2010

On a beautifully sunny Sunday 30th May, Tavistock’s very own Pannier Market & Bedford Square played host to over 40 garden product based stall holders offering a huge variety of plants & garden sundries ranging from the usual hardy perennials & shrubs to more unusual & rare plants from specialist nurseries.
The event was not only a feast for the eyes with such beautiful displays but also educational & informative as everyone had an opportunity to get planting advice direct from the experts who were more than willing to impart some of their vast horticultural wisdom.
In addition to the plants on offer there were a whole host of other garden essentials plus a variety of local arts & crafts available including vintage garden furniture & ornaments, wood carvings & individually designed slate ware.
Tavistock Town Mayor Cllr David Whitcomb opened the event & then had the honour of choosing his personal favourite display garden from the fantastic displays put on by Barracott Plants of Gunnislake, Hidden Valley Nursery of Umberleigh, Tartendown Nursery of Landrake & Trecanna Nursery of Latchley. After much deliberation & consultation with Cllr Sue Bailey, the Mayors Favourite Garden Prize was awarded to Barracott Plants.
We had visitors from all over the West Country & even from further afield including Germany & Australia, some of whom had attended Chelsea Flower Show earlier in the week. Everybody that we spoke to, traders & visitors alike, were having a great day with many people expressing how much they were enjoying the variety on offer & that it was a fantastic event with a great atmosphere. Many regular visitors said it was the best Tavistock Garden Festival to date!
Tavistock Town Council would like to thank all the traders for their great displays, hard work & continued support for this event. Also thank you to all the people that came to visit us on Sunday 30th May & contributed to making this a fantastic day out.
