This fundraising project was started in 1999 when the Lions Club of Tavistock agreed with Tavistock Town Council to erect a large Christmas Tree on the front of the Town Hall which would be covered in lights sponsored by members of the public in memory of departed love ones.
Over £150,000 has been collected to date. It has become so popular that the number of trees has been increased to three to cater for all the light bulbs.
The “switch on” will be on Thursday 30th November at 7.00pm in Tavistock's Bedford Square. It will be followed by a short interdenominational service led by the local clergy. During the evening, the Lions will be serving hot drinks and mince pies.
