Young Artists Invited to Design the Mayor’s Christmas Card

The Guildhall Heritage Centre is inviting young artists aged 16 and under to get creative and design the Mayor of Tavistock’s official Christmas card for 2026, as part of its fifth anniversary celebrations.

December 2026 marks five years since the Guildhall first opened its doors as the Guildhall Heritage Centre. To celebrate this milestone, the team is planning a series of activities, beginning with a Christmas card design competition inspired by Tavistock’s rich heritage.

Cllr Anne Johnson, Mayor of Tavistock, is looking for a special design for her annual Christmas card, with this year’s theme celebrating the Guildhall Heritage Centre and its connection to the Cornish Mining World Heritage Site.

Young people are encouraged to explore their creativity and find inspiration in the Guildhall, its history and Tavistock’s mining heritage. Entries can be created using any artistic medium, provided they are submitted on A4 paper. Please note that designs containing glitter cannot be accepted.

How to enter

The competition is open to anyone aged 16 and under. To enter, participants should:

• Create a design on A4 paper that reflects the Guildhall and its history.

• Write their first name, age and a contact telephone number or email address on the back of their design.

• Deliver their entry to the Guildhall Heritage Centre during opening hours, Tuesday to Saturday, 10am–4pm.

The closing date for entries is Friday 13th November 2026.

A panel of judges, including the Mayor, will select the winning design. The winning artwork will then feature on Christmas cards available to purchase from the Guildhall in December.

All proceeds from the sale of the cards will go to the Mayor’s Charity, Dartmoor Search & Rescue Team (Tavistock), helping to support the vital work of this local volunteer search and rescue team.

The Guildhall team is looking forward to seeing the imaginative designs and discovering how young people interpret Tavistock’s unique heritage.

So, pick up your pencils, paints or pens and get creative – your design could become the Mayor’s Christmas card this year!
