The Queen's Platinum Jubilee Beacon Ceremony

Thursday 2nd June 2022 - 9.45pm

Whitchurch Down

Tavistock Town Council invite the local community to join them on Thursday 2nd June, as they host The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee Beacon ceremony to celebrate Her Majesty The Queen’s 70th year as our Monarch and Head of the Commonwealth.

There is a longstanding tradition in our country of celebrating Royal Jubilees, Weddings and Coronations with the lighting of beacons, with the last ceremony in Tavistock being Her Majesty’s 90th Birthday in 2016 whereby the Beacon was lit on Whitchurch Down as part of a chain of 1,000 beacons shining bright across the country in celebration.

On 2nd June, Tavistock will join communities across the Commonwealth where more than 1,500 beacons will be lit, to celebrate another unique milestone of Her Majesty The Queen, one which no previous monarch has achieved before.

If you would like to join in with the official Platinum Jubilee celebrations and pay tribute to Her Majesty The Queen’s long and selfless service, the ceremony will be held near what locals refer to fondly as “The Pimple” on Whitchurch Down, with the beacon being lit at 9.45pm.

Parking is limited and so it advised those who are able to do so park in the town and walk to the ceremony.
